Your Athlete Is the Asset. Is the Asset Protected?
Businesses insure their most valuable assets. A trucking company insures its fleet. A restaurant insures its kitchen. The logic is simple — if your most valuable asset is damaged or lost, you need something in place to protect what it generates and what it represents. Your athlete is your family's most valuable asset right now. Is that asset protected?
What Most Families Assume
Most families assume that because the athlete is on scholarship and the school has an athletic trainer, coverage is handled. The reality, when we walk through what actually exists, is almost always a surprise. The average university carries a ten thousand dollar accidental death policy. The NCAA adds another twenty five thousand. That is thirty five thousand dollars total if the unthinkable happens. It does not cover income loss. It does not cover career ending injury. It does not reflect what your athlete's life and potential are actually worth.
Two Kinds of Protection Every Athlete Family Needs
The first is life insurance. A private policy structured around your athlete's age and health can provide real coverage at a fraction of the cost most families expect — because young, healthy athletes are among the most favorable underwriting profiles that exist.
The second is disability and critical injury coverage. This is the protection that pays when a torn ACL, a torn Achilles, or another career altering event occurs. It pays a cash benefit based on your athlete's earning potential — whether or not they return to play. A player who tears their ACL in October and is back the following September can still collect a benefit if the right coverage was in place before the injury.
The Window to Qualify Is Not Unlimited
Coverage must be in place before an injury occurs.Once a significant injury happens, the window to qualify for that coverage typically closes. This is not a conversation to have after the injury. It is a conversation to have at the beginning of the season, before anyone sets foot on a practice field. Schedule a consultation and we will walk through what your athlete qualifies for right now.
